The technology curriculum is designed to expose learners to emerging technology and reinforce the basics of computer use and digital citizenship. Grades 3-8 have 1:1 Chromebooks. Grades Kindergarten-5 participate in a technology class once a week. Grades 6-8 participate in a core Robotics class as part of the technology program.
Through project-based learning, students are challenged to solve problems in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (S.T.E.M.).
In our Middle School Technology class, we cover a variety of topics including digital safety, Microsoft Office, ten finger touch typing, and coding. Students will also build and program simple VEX IQ robots for in-class competitions!
In our Robotics elective class, we focus on making competitive VEX IQ robots! Students in this class also have the opportunity to compete with other schools on our Laurel Hall Robotics Team: Hornet Robotics! Previous Rapid Relay games have involved building a robot that shoots projectile plush balls into goals to earn points. Teams can customize robots that can be up to 23 inches wide, 15 inches tall, and 6 feet long; the sky is the limit! Our team will work together with teams from other schools to try and score as many total points as possible. Going to competitions is an amazing opportunity to meet teams from other schools and see the incredible robots being built!

In this hands-on elective, students explore the world of visual communication and creative expression using industry-standard tools in our state-of-the-art Mac Lab. Through projects that build on the elements of art and principles of design, students learn to brainstorm, problem-solve, and think critically as they bring their ideas to life. Using digital cameras and Adobe Creative Cloud applications, they experiment with layout, typography, and imagery to design original works and develop real-world creative skills.
