Kindergarten Teacher
This is my first year teaching at Laurel Hall; however, 17 years ago, my daughter Mary attended preschool here, so I already feel like a part of the Laurel Hall family. My educational outcomes include a BA and MA in Communication Arts from Loyola Marymount University and a master’s degree in Library Science.
After a successful 35-year career in post-production sound - primarily as a dialogue editor for film and television - I was yearning for a quest in which I could make a significant impact upon the lives of children. Upon my discovery that I was eligible for early retirement, I left the entertainment industry, and in 2018 I earned my teaching credential and followed with a Transitional Kindergarten certification. I have since taught TK, kindergarten and 1st grade, and today I feel extraordinarily blessed to be teaching kindergarten at Laurel Hall.
I have 3 children, and was an extremely active volunteer parent for 16 continuous years at nearby Colfax Charter Elementary. My husband Tom is a Scoutmaster and I am an Assistant Scoutmaster, so we are very involved in camping, hiking, and backpacking with BSA Scouts. In my free time I enjoy reading, walking around the neighborhood with my 3 dogs, learning new things (especially how to become a better educator), and spending time with family and friends.
I am incredibly grateful for my enthusiastic kindergartners, their supportive parents, and the entire Laurel Hall community. You have all been so welcoming! I look forward to many years of guiding my students in engaging and rewarding educational experiences, and instilling empathy, joy, and a life-long love of learning.
