There are currently plans for the Laurel Plaza Mall area (west of Laurel Hall School and essentially the parking lot where Macy's currently resides) to undergo a complete redevelopment. As of June 2016, the project is in the entitlements process, which is expected to be completed in mid- to late Fall 2016. If the entitlements are approved and leasing of the to-be-built project is successful, development could begin as early as January 2017, with construction work well underway by Spring 2017.
The new site will encompass a pedestrian-oriented town center with high-quality retail, commercial, office and residential apartments that enhance and serve the existing neighborhood and local businesses. According to plans proposed as of May 2016, the project details include: 658 apartment units, 189,000 sf of office space in the fully renovated Macy’s building, 380,000 sf of new retail space, including the ground floor of the Macy’s building, and a new 1,615 space parking structure.
Our NoHo West Task Force, led by Tim Lowe, will continue to work with developer Merlone Geier to manage the impacts of the new development on Laurel Hall School, the Early Childhood Center and Emmanuel Lutheran Church of North Hollywood.
