Drama (4th - 6th grade)
In 4th-6th grade Drama the students explore the world of theater, acting and improvisation. Using theater as the core, the environment and culture of the Drama class is a nurturing, safe place for students to experiment and take chances. Through the art of acting and game playing they utilize and hone their critical thinking skills and learn to work cooperatively with others. The class is structured in a way that challenges the students to "think" creatively and problem solve while creating scenes and situations that are relevant to them.
Spring Musical (7th and 8th grade)
The Spring Musical is an extraordinary opportunity for students to experience the excitement and thrill of performing in a full-scale theatrical presentation. Students who elect to participate in the multi-performance show receive training by top professionals in the area of acting, singing and dancing, which builds confidence and improves related abilities such as public speaking. All performances happen on a multi-curtained proscenium stage and are accompanied by a live, professional band. Described by some as “life-changing” and “once in a lifetime”, many graduates recount the experience as fundamental to their later success. Talented members of the parent community often contribute in the areas of stage craft, costume design, lights, sound, hair and make-up, which results in consistently high production values. Recent performances include “Mary Poppins”, “Footloose” and “Forty-Second Street”. All interested 7th and 8th graders are eligible to participate, and receive either lead or supporting roles, or are featured in multiple songs or scenes.
