Laurel Hall is led by a talented, experienced team that is centered on providing a quality, well-rounded education to children. We strive to foster a learning environment that helps our children find and grow their natural talents and skills while developing foundational skills to succeed in life.

Currently the Assistant Principal, I have been at Laurel Hall for 21 years. I began my career here as the Student Support Director and have also served as the Acting and Interim Principal. The community and family spirit, along with the rigorous academic environment, are what make our school special. I hold a BA from Cal State Northridge in Sociology with a minor in Women’s Studies and an MED in Education with an endorsement for Private School Leader. I have been a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church for 45 years. I am married with two grown children who both attended the ECC and Laurel Hall. In my spare time, I love to read and bake.

I joined Laurel Hall's staff in September 1984, and have been teaching here for 31 years, taking two years off midstream to be at home with my young children. I spent 11 very enjoyable years as a 1st grade teacher and the remainder has been as the Elementary Resource Teacher. I graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, New Jersey, with a BA in Special Education. I have a Multi-Subject Credential, a Specialist Credential in Learning Disabilities and an Master’s in Elementary Reading from Cal State Northridge. In my current position as Resource Teacher and Curriculum Advisor, I very much enjoy working with students, families and teachers to help give students the best possible tools to master the educational skills needed to succeed in the academic world. While I am a native New Yorker, but I have lived in California with my husband for 34 years. We have raised three wonderful, kind children, all of whom attended Laurel Hall from preschool through 8th grade. My favorite things to do in my spare time are going to the beach with family and friends, gardening, and doing daily crossword and Sudoku puzzles.

Rev. Marty Hancer became Emmanuel Lutheran Church’s (Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Laurel Hall School, Emmanuel Early Childhood Center, Midoriland Retreat Center) Senior Pastor in September, 2016. Pastor Marty received his BA in Mass Communications at the University of Minnesota and completed his Master of Divinity degree at Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN. Pastor Marty interned at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, served as Associate Pastor of First Lutheran Church, Brainerd, MN, and as Senior Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Princeton, MN, prior to coming to Emmanuel. Pastor Marty and his wife, Laurie, have two daughters: Amanda and Megan, who are both students at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. In his free time he loves to golf, fish, camp, hike and explore his new Southern California “home.” Pastor Marty is excited for the opportunity to lead and to serve the entire Emmanuel Lutheran family and community in our life together.
